Community Service was Spring Break Destination for Sarah Loeffler

2015 Mar 18

Many college students hit the beaches over Spring Break, while others spent their time away from classes in the mountains or the big city. For Sarah Loeffler, participating in Ithaca College's Alternative Spring Break program, going to such locations didn't mean she worked on her tan.

The Alternative Spring Break gives Ithaca College students the opportunity to grow personally and professionally by working at a variety of sites, ranging from the coasts of North Carolina and Virginia to inner-city Washington, D.C., to Native American territory in New York. The annual program is run by the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs.

Loeffler, a sophomore performance/music education major in the School of Music, traveled to Salamanca, N.Y., to assist the staff of the Salamanca Youth Center with academic tutoring and with program activity design and implementation, along with maintenance projects such as painting and making minor repairs.
