Michayla Savitt Wins Second Place in Park Tank Competition

2016 Oct 19

Ithaca College Student Michayla Savitt won second place in the annual Park Tank competition for her idea of a podcast that focuses on raising mental health awareness, called "The Scoop on Mental Health." She took home a $300 prize. The podcast plans to feature discussions to help break the stigma surrounding mental health, while participants eat ice cream. Savitt also plans to use the podcast to raise funds to support counseling services on campus.

This is the third annual year of Park Tank, a competition held by the Roy H. Park School of Communications where students pitch media-based business ideas to a panel of alumni and faculty judges. This year the panel included Art Moore '66, Laurie Greenberg '80, Billy Hall '84, Cara LeMieux '02, Business School Dean Sean Reid and Bill Guerrero, vice president for finance and treasurer of Albertus Magnus College.

Savitt competed against seven other student teams, each given 60 seconds to pitch their concepts without the use of video, and if not voted off, they could continue with video. After the pitch, judges were able to ask questions and give students feedback on their ideas.
