Music Technology Leadership Academy Selects Erin Stringer for Annual Program

2014 Feb 18

Erin Stringer, a junior studying music education in the Ithaca College School of Music, has been selected to participate in the 3rd annual TI:ME Music Technology Leadership Academy. The program for college student intending to pursue a career teaching music helps provide them with strategies for engaging non-traditional middle and secondary school students through technology-based music programs.

"I applied to this program because I think it's important to learn how to make education more interesting and inclusive," Stringer said. "I hope to learn new ways of engaging new students using technology in music classrooms."

Sponsored by the Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME) with support from the National Association of Music Merchants, the highly competitive program has selected a small group of undergraduate music education majors to attend the 2014 Texas Music Educators Association Conference in conjunction with the Music Technology Leadership Academy. Participants will attend eight sessions focusing on developing strategies for utilizing technology to reach non-traditional music students. After the conference, they are expected to share the experience with pre- or in-service teachers in their community and to continue to interact online with their colleagues from this and previous academy programs.
