Rachel Weinberg Recognized by Television Academy

2015 May 8

The Television Academy recognized Rachel Weinberg, a junior documentary studies and production major in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, for her work on the film "The Provider."

"The Provider" took third in the documentary category at the College Television Awards.

Weinberg worked on the film as producer and on-set audio.

“The Provider” tells the story of a doctor who travels from New Mexico to Texas to perform safe, legal abortions. The production team interviewed legislators, pro-life supporters and Sarah Weddington — the attorney who represented Jane Roe in the Roe v. Wade case before the U.S. Supreme Court — to demonstrate the conflicting abortion sentiments in the state of Texas and diminishing resources available to women seeking abortions in the United States.

The documentary was produced to fulfill the capstone requirement of the Documentary Studies and Production program.

College Television Awards entries are judged on excellence in overall production by members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation. Winners are honored at a gala held in Los Angeles, awarded cash prizes and given industry recognition and the opportunity to network with top television executives.
