Samantha Brown Travels to New York City for Fall Break as part of Exploring Musical New York Class

2015 Nov 18

Samantha Brown, a athletic training major in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College, traveled to New York City to see 5 shows over Fall Break as part of the Exploring Musical New York class offered in the School of Music.

The class, led by Professor Peter Rothbart, was a half-semester long course through the music school that taught students how to be "intelligent, aesthetically aware and excited audience members."

Throughout the course, Brown learned about five different pieces of music in five different genres.

While in the city, Brown was able to see all five genres in performance including: Wagner's Tannhauser at the Metropolitan Opera; Birdland Big Band at the Birdland Jazz Club; the American Symphony Orchestra's Mimesis: Musical Representations at Carnegie Hall; George and Ira Gershwin's An American in Paris at the Palace Theatre; and a performance by the New York City Ballet at the David H. Koch Theater.
