Variety Magazine Names Leah Galant to 'Students to Watch' List

Variety Magazine named Leah Galant, a senior documentary studies and production major in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, to its 110 Students to Watch list.

In honor of its 110th anniversary, the publication selected 110 students who represent the future of film, media and entertainment. Variety invited faculty members in the nation's top communications programs to nominate up to five students with notable achievements and experiences for consideration. Ithaca College was one of only 6 colleges and universities to have all five nominees chosen for inclusion.

Galant directs media content that focuses on social change. Her most recent documentary, “The Provider,” which follows the story of an abortion doctor who performs services in restrictive parts of the country, won second place in the documentary category at the 36th annual College Television Awards. Her film “Beyond the Wall” — a social justice documentary that highlights a former inmate’s successful re-entry to society — was screened at the 2014 Visions Film Festival and Conference and at the 2014 National Film Festival for Talented Youth.
