Ithaca College Students Win Coca-Cola and Regal Film Program

First-year Ithaca College students Eva Kirie and Clara Montague were named the winners of the competitive Coca-Cola and Regal Film Program. Their 35-second film, "The Library," will screen at Regal Cinemas across the country this summer.

Ithaca College Ad Lab Team Wins National Student Advertising Competition

A group of students from Ithaca College won the American Advertising Federation's National Student Advertising Competition on Friday, June 7, in Hollywood, Florida. The team competed against seven other schools, with Liberty University coming in second and Syracuse University finishing third. The students are all participants in the college's Ad Lab, a senior capstone campaigns course in the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) major, housed within the Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Ithaca College Students Named Finalists in Coca-Cola and Regal Film Competition

First-year Ithaca College students Eva Kirie and Clara Montague received an accelerated education in professional filmmaking when they were selected as finalists in the national Coca-Cola and Regal Films Program. The program is a six-month initiative that challenges film students - usually experienced upperclassmen - to write and shoot a short film advertising Coca-Cola and Regal Cinemas. If the pair are selected as the grand prize winners by a red ribbon panel of industry judges in April, they'll receive a Red Raven camera kit and their film will be played on thousands of Regal Cinemas screens across the country. "I can't even describe it," said Kirie. "There's no freshmen that get these types of opportunities at any other school."

Winner of the 2017 Mu Phi Epsilon Original Composition Contest Division I Class B

Patrick Holcomb is the winner of the 2017 Mu Phi Epsilon Original Composition Contest Division I Class B for his string orchestra piece, "Shortcut Through the City." Written for Bill Makin and the Ithaca High School Symphonic Strings, the piece is described by Holcomb as "inspired by the landscape of Ithaca (both natural and man-made) and the feeling of becoming lost in a familiar place." A music composition major, Holcomb was also commissioned by the Connecticut Summerfest to compose a new work for Horn and Harp. The resulting piece, "Finding Muse," premiered last summer.

Ithaca College Students Win Athletic Training Video Contest

Eight Ithaca College students were named the overall winners of the New York State Athletic Training Association's fifth annual Athletic Training Program Student Video Contest. The winning video showed some of the techniques students learn in Ithaca College's athletic training program.

Ithaca College Students Place Second in Washington Media Scholars Case Competition

Ithaca College students Carley Newman and Ella Sciocchetti attended the Washington Media Scholars national media planning case competition in Washington D.C. As one of six finalist teams nationwide, they finished as first runners-up for the National Media Excellence Award. Newman and Sciocchetti will each receive a $3,000 scholarship as part of their award.

Ithaca College Students Win Best Poster at Yale Plant Biology Conference

Environmental science and biology students Sydney O'Shaughnessy and Adam Zelehowsky won the Best Undergraduate Poster Award at the annual plant biology conference held at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Their poster displayed research focused on the impacts of an introduced species on coastal plant habitats on the beaches of the Puerto Rican islands. O'Shaughnessy and Zelehowsky conducted their research with Professors Melcher and Susan Witherup. The findings of the study show that the introduced species has a high potential to outcompete the native species.

Cailin Harro to compete for Phi Kappa Phi Society-wide Fellowship awards

The Ithaca College chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has selected Cailin Harro '17 to represent Ithaca College and to compete for the 2017-18 Phi Kappa Phi Society-wide fellowship awards. These awards are extremely competitive and to be selected as a Fellow is a distinct honor.

Mary Katherine Jones Awarded Best Delegate at Harvard National Model UN Conference

Mary Katherine Jones, a sophmore journalism major at Ithaca College, was awarded Best Delegate at the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference on Feb. 19. Jones worked as The Strait Times in the Press Corps committee, which she said she was automatically drawn to due to her interest in journalism. "Throughout the weekend at the conference, I worked to produce about 16 articles on various topics from the point of view of The Straits Times," she said. "It was an amazing experience, and at the end of the weekend I was awarded Best Delegate in the Press Corps. I was completely shocked, as Harvard's conference is the largest and one of most competitive in the world."

IC Students Win "Best Hardware Hack" at RIT's WiC Hacks Event

Competing against over 200 other students, a group from Ithaca College's Women in Computing organization won "Best Hardware Hack" at the Rochester Institute of Technology's fourth annual WiC Hacks event on Feb. 25 and 26. The competition, which aims to inspire young women to explore the world of technology, challenges participants to build programs in just 24 hours. Lauren McGrath, Lauren Suna, Tea Mdevadze and Mia Kimmich Mitchell won for Time Out, a Pebble watch app that allows women to quickly notify emergency contacts of their safety level.

For PRWeek Student of the Year Finalist, a Lot of Research, a Lot of Planning, a Little Acting

An Ithaca College senior is one of the top five finalists in this year's PRWeek Student of the Year competition, and she got there with a little help from her theater background. Mackenzie Gannon, who graduates this spring with a degree in integrated marketing communications, applied to the industry magazine's competition as part of an independent project in her Public Relations Lab course in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Ithaca College student entrepreneurs competed in the first annual Startup Idea Demo Day on Thursday, Nov. 17, to take home a combined $6,500 in prizes. The event, hosted by Rev: Ithaca Startup Works, gave students the opportunity to pitch business ideas to a panel of local entrepreneurial experts and network with business leaders.

Ithaca College Students Win College Television Award

A sports talk show on student-run Ithaca College Television (ICTV) has won a prestigious College Television Award from the Television Academy Foundation. "Hold That Thought" took first place in the unscripted series category. Producers Jenna Harner, Jonah Restuccio and Amy Stiefel, and ICTV Sports Director Mike Kaminskas, each received awards for their work on the show.

Ithaca College Student Marketing Organization Brings Home Top Award at National Conference

Facing off against over 240 schools, the Ithaca College chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) brought home a top award at the Annual Intercollegiate Conference in March. ICAMA won the award for excellence in chapter planning, membership and communication at the AMA's annual gathering in New Orleans. The award put the chapter in the top 30 of 247 individual chapters.
