Sushma Saha Shines in "Interstate" at the New York Musical Festival

Ithaca College musical theatre student Sushma Saha '20 has played plenty of lead roles, but none that spoke to their identity as much as Henry, the South Asian, transgender teen at the center of "Interstate," which had a run of six performances at during the 2018 New York Musical Festival. On the biggest stage of their career, Saha earned rave reviews from publications like the Village Voice.

Ithaca College student Danielle Allentuck was awarded the Roy Hewitt Scholarship by the Associated Press Sports Editors. APSE gives four scholarships of $1,500 to collegiate sports journalists. The scholarships are awarded based on the quality of the journalism, academic record and need.

Ithaca College Student's 'Ninja Warrior' Documentary Wins Festival Award

People across the country tune in to watch incredible athletes tackle challenging obstacle courses on the television show "American Ninja Warrior," but they usually aren't familiar with the training process required for the contestants to get to primetime. Ithaca College senior Amy Jacobson recently won Best Short Documentary at the Angeles Documentaries Film Festival for "Real Life Ninja," which follows one ninja warrior as he trains people to overcome obstacles.

For her dedicated work in support of adoptees and adoptive families, Ithaca College sophomore Adrienne Smith has been named a 2018 Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact, a national organization committed to advancing community service in higher education. The television-radio major was one of 268 college students selected for a fellowship.

Ithaca College Students Named Finalists in Coca-Cola and Regal Film Competition

First-year Ithaca College students Eva Kirie and Clara Montague received an accelerated education in professional filmmaking when they were selected as finalists in the national Coca-Cola and Regal Films Program. The program is a six-month initiative that challenges film students - usually experienced upperclassmen - to write and shoot a short film advertising Coca-Cola and Regal Cinemas. If the pair are selected as the grand prize winners by a red ribbon panel of industry judges in April, they'll receive a Red Raven camera kit and their film will be played on thousands of Regal Cinemas screens across the country. "I can't even describe it," said Kirie. "There's no freshmen that get these types of opportunities at any other school."

Ithaca College Students Earn Olympics Internship with NBC Sports

Twenty-nine students from the Ithaca College Roy H. Park School of Communications will work as interns supporting NBC's coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics, which will be held Feb. 9-25 in Pyeongchang, Korea. Eight of those students will be in Korea, while the remainder will work from the NBC Sports broadcast and production facility in Stamford, Connecticut. The student interns will fill a variety of roles for NBC, from logging video to choosing which shots will be shown on television. "Since 2006, Park School students have been selected by NBC as interns for their coverage of the Olympics. Now it's a tradition for our alumni who are covering the Olympics to seek out the current crop," said Diane Gayeski, dean of the Park School. "I'm so proud of the way our students and alumni support each other and spread our reputation as a school that prepares young leaders for the rigorous challenges of intense international media assignments."

Ithaca College Business School Students Headed to Pyeongchang for Olympic Internships

Twenty students from the Ithaca College School of Business will be helping to manage the 102 events occurring at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, being held Feb. 9-25 in Pyeongchang, Korea. The students will be stationed in locations like the Alpensia Ski Jumping Center and the Gangneung Ice Arena. They will assist with venue operations, such as ushering athletes and spectators around the venues. Ithaca College is one of only two schools selected to help the Korean Olympic Committee staff the games.
