Ithaca College Students Inducted Into Oracle Honor Society

The Ithaca College School of Business inducted 15 students into the Oracle Honor Society. The Oracle Honor Society recognizes those students who are in the top 10% of their class academically at the end of their freshman year. The Oracle Honor Society principles are scholarship, leadership, loyalty, service, and character represented by the five points in the star in the Oracle Key.

Ithaca College Art Student Wins Award at Local Gallery

Marilyn Markech '18, an art major and 2017 summer scholar in the Ithaca College School of Humanities and Sciences, won second prize at the State of the Art Gallery's Juried Show for her painting, "The Splits," on Dec. 1. The painting uses the concept of splitting to raise awareness of borderline personality disorder.

Ithaca College Theatre Student Selected to Attend Leading Conference and Trade Show

Ithaca College senior Nicholas Palatella is going to Las Vegas to attend Live Design International, the leading conference and trade show for live design professionals. The theatrical production arts major is one of seven recipients of this year's LDI student sponsorship from Electronic Theatre Controls, a manufacturer of lighting control systems for entertainment industries and architectural spaces.

The Ithacan Inducted into Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Hall of Fame

The Ithacan, the student-run newspaper at Ithaca College, was inducted into the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Hall of Fame at the National College Media Convention in Dallas, Texas, on Nov. 8. The Hall of Fame recognizes student publications that have received a combination of 15 national Pacemaker and Pacemaker finalist awards, widely referred to as "the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism."

Gabriela Urbaez-Mendez Accepted as Participant in Ithaca College Cross Cultural Leadership Retreat

Gabriela Urbaez-Mendez will be participating in the 16th annual Cross Cultural Leadership Retreat (CCLR) for Ithaca College students. This two and a half day retreat will provide her with the opportunity to explore various aspects of diversity and their relationship to leadership. During the retreat, she and the rest of the group will participate in a series of educational sessions and discuss issues as a large group, as well as in smaller, informal conversations.

First BOLD Scholars Selected at Ithaca College

Ithaca College has announced its inaugural cohort of BOLD Scholars, comprising 10 juniors who have become part of an initiative focused on cultivating courageous leadership among college women. Selected as the first IC BOLD Scholars are Nabilah Abdalla, Chasia Bambo, Hannah Cayem, Candace Cross, Grace Elletson, Terri Landez, Julissa Martinez, Avery Santiago, Katelyn Walsh and Laura Waxman.

Ithaca College Student Wins Kodak Film Award

Ithaca College student Tyler Macri won the Gold Award - the top prize from the annual Kodak Student Scholarship Program. In addition to a $5,000 scholarship, the award comes with $5,000 worth of film. Macri claimed the gold award for his creative short film, "What Comes from a Swamp."

Winner of the 2017 Mu Phi Epsilon Original Composition Contest Division I Class B

Patrick Holcomb is the winner of the 2017 Mu Phi Epsilon Original Composition Contest Division I Class B for his string orchestra piece, "Shortcut Through the City." Written for Bill Makin and the Ithaca High School Symphonic Strings, the piece is described by Holcomb as "inspired by the landscape of Ithaca (both natural and man-made) and the feeling of becoming lost in a familiar place." A music composition major, Holcomb was also commissioned by the Connecticut Summerfest to compose a new work for Horn and Harp. The resulting piece, "Finding Muse," premiered last summer.

Six Ithaca College Students Attend National Conference for Women Student Leaders

Six Ithaca College student leaders were selected from a competitive pool to attend the 2017 National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL), held May 31-June 3 in College Park, MD. The NCCWSL focuses on women's leadership issues and features a broad range of speakers, including internationally known activists, politicians, journalists, entrepreneurs, and scientists.

Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Awarded to Cailin Harro

Recent Ithaca College graduate Cailin Harro was selected as a Phi Kappa Phi Fellow and will receive an award of $5,000 in support of her graduate studies. Harro, who graduated in May 2017 with a B.S. in Biology is planning to pursue her DVM degree at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Lansing, MI.

Ithaca College Students Place Second in Washington Media Scholars Case Competition

Ithaca College students Carley Newman and Ella Sciocchetti attended the Washington Media Scholars national media planning case competition in Washington D.C. As one of six finalist teams nationwide, they finished as first runners-up for the National Media Excellence Award. Newman and Sciocchetti will each receive a $3,000 scholarship as part of their award.

Ithaca College Student Wins Best Presentation at Science Conference

Ithaca College student Cynthia Ulbing was awarded "Best Undergraduate Presentation" at the Ontario Ecology, Ethology and Evolution Colloquium at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Ulbing presented the results of her honors research, conducted during the 2016-17 academic year under the supervision of Brooks Miner, assistant professor of Biology. Her presentation on May 19, 2017 was entitled "Protection from UV-induced DNA damage by melanin pigmentation in Daphnia melanica."

Four Ithaca College Students Receive Dean's Awards

The Ithaca College School of Humanities and Sciences selected the recipients of the 2017 Dean's Awards. The Dean's Award is granted annually to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average in each of the four disciplinary areas in the School of Humanities and Sciences: Social and Behavioral Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities, and Fine and Performing Arts.
