Ithaca College Students Win Best Poster at Yale Plant Biology Conference

Environmental science and biology students Sydney O'Shaughnessy and Adam Zelehowsky won the Best Undergraduate Poster Award at the annual plant biology conference held at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Their poster displayed research focused on the impacts of an introduced species on coastal plant habitats on the beaches of the Puerto Rican islands. O'Shaughnessy and Zelehowsky conducted their research with Professors Melcher and Susan Witherup. The findings of the study show that the introduced species has a high potential to outcompete the native species.

Ithaca College Music Students Perform at Lincoln Center

In front of a large crowd in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on a Saturday night in New York City, Ithaca College music students performed a special concert on the same stage where such famed artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell have played. Titled "The Exquisite Hour: MusIC of Love and Rapture," the April 29 performance featured the Ithaca College Choir, Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.

Ithaca College Student Receives Grant to Study Abroad

Ithaca College junior Victoria Voorhees was awarded a $1,000 study abroad grant from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi -- the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Voorhees is one of a select group of 50 students nationwide to receive the award.

Five Ithaca College Students Receive Scholarships from New York Women in Communications Foundation

For the second year in a row, the New York Women in Communications Inc. (NYWICI) Foundation has awarded a significant number of scholarships to students from Ithaca College's Roy H. Park School of Communications. Five of the 19 scholarships awarded by the organization this year went to IC sophomores, while last year IC students took home six of 22 awards.

Over 50 Ithaca College Students Present Research at National Conference

Fifty-three Ithaca College students travelled to the University of Memphis in Tennessee to present their research at the 2017 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). Students from colleges and universities across the country presented at the annual conference, which took place April 6-8. The presentations mostly comprised research projects completed during students' coursework, including independent studies, senior theses and lab work.

Ithaca College student Dallas Fonseca presented research at the 25th Annual Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program Statewide Student Conference, which was held April 7-9, 2017 in Bolton Landing, N.Y. Fonseca presented "The Role of Specificity in the Emergence of Post-transcriptional Regulons in Germline Development," for which he won the top Life Sciences II award at the conference.

New York Press Association Names Ithacan Best College Newspaper in NY

Ithaca College's student-run newspaper, The Ithacan, has been named the Best College Newspaper in New York State for 2016 by the New York Press Association. The award, the NYPA's top collegiate honor, was announced April 8 at the organization's annual convention at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Gene Editing Research Helps Land Ithaca College Junior Two Prestigious Scholarships

Ithaca College student Dallas Fonseca was named a recipient of a prestigious -- and competitive -- Barry Goldwater Scholarship, one of the most distinguished awards offered in the sciences. He was also selected to be part of the renowned -- and also competitive -- Amgen Scholars Program, and will spend this summer working in a lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Ithaca College Student Awarded Daniel Walden Prize

Senior English major Alyssa Rodriguez was awarded the Daniel Walden Prize by the Mid-Atlantic Popular Culture Association. The prize is given each year to an outstanding emerging scholar in popular culture studies. Rodriguez was recognized for her work on the trope of the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" in film and young adult fiction.
