IC Women's Track & Field Sweeps USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Yearly Awards

Ithaca College's track and field team swept all four major categories of the Atlantic Region for The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional awards. Junior Taryn Cordani was named Track Athlete of the Year, senior Katherine Pitman was voted as the Field Athlete of the Year, Jennifer Potter received Head Coach of the Year and Matt Scheffler was chosen as Assistant Coach of the Year.

Over 100 Students Inducted in Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society

104 Ithaca College students have been inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi is the only national honor society which recognizes and encourages superior scholarship in all disciplines of higher education.

Mary Katherine Jones Awarded Best Delegate at Harvard National Model UN Conference

Mary Katherine Jones, a sophmore journalism major at Ithaca College, was awarded Best Delegate at the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference on Feb. 19. Jones worked as The Strait Times in the Press Corps committee, which she said she was automatically drawn to due to her interest in journalism. "Throughout the weekend at the conference, I worked to produce about 16 articles on various topics from the point of view of The Straits Times," she said. "It was an amazing experience, and at the end of the weekend I was awarded Best Delegate in the Press Corps. I was completely shocked, as Harvard's conference is the largest and one of most competitive in the world."

IC Students Win "Best Hardware Hack" at RIT's WiC Hacks Event

Competing against over 200 other students, a group from Ithaca College's Women in Computing organization won "Best Hardware Hack" at the Rochester Institute of Technology's fourth annual WiC Hacks event on Feb. 25 and 26. The competition, which aims to inspire young women to explore the world of technology, challenges participants to build programs in just 24 hours. Lauren McGrath, Lauren Suna, Tea Mdevadze and Mia Kimmich Mitchell won for Time Out, a Pebble watch app that allows women to quickly notify emergency contacts of their safety level.

For PRWeek Student of the Year Finalist, a Lot of Research, a Lot of Planning, a Little Acting

An Ithaca College senior is one of the top five finalists in this year's PRWeek Student of the Year competition, and she got there with a little help from her theater background. Mackenzie Gannon, who graduates this spring with a degree in integrated marketing communications, applied to the industry magazine's competition as part of an independent project in her Public Relations Lab course in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Across the U.S. and Canada, Ithaca College Students Give of Themselves Over Spring Break

As Ithaca College students depart for Spring Break next week, 40 will disperse throughout the country and Canada to spend their time volunteering for a variety of causes, while another three will trek to Alaska to help locals prepare their income taxes.

Eleven Ithaca College students recieved the "MLK NOW" Award for their above-and-beyond service during the college's annual MLK Day of Service, which concluded a week of educational workshops and performances. The "MLK NOW" Award is given to one student from each volunteer group who demonstrates servant leadership and exceptional teamwork. The winners are voted on by the members of their group.

Students to Broadcast Sports Talk Programming from Houston During Super Bowl Week

Three Ithaca College students are in Houston, TX to broadcast their live sports-talk show and podcast from the site of Super Bowl LI. Jake Asman and Dan Budick, hosts of the aptly named Asman & Budick Show, along with their producer Jake Chernock, were credentialed by the National Football League to broadcast from the famed Radio Row, the designated location for media to set up shop.

Daniella Hobbs Wins Director's Guild of America Student Film Award

Ithaca College student Daniella Hobbs took home the jury award at the Director's Guild of America Student Film Awards for her documentary film, "The City of Good Neighbors." The senior documentary studies and production major accepted her award at a ceremony on Dec. 15 in New York City. Hobbs' prize came in the east region of the best African American student filmmaker category.

Elizabeth Gulino, an integrated marketing communications major at Ithaca College, was awarded a scholarship by the Washington Media Scholars Foundation. The foundation provides college students with the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of the public policy advertising field by providing scholarships and holding an annual media plan case competition.

Annie Morrison Named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year

Ithaca College student and cross country runner Annie Morrison was named the Empire 8's Rookie of the Year. Morrison is the seventh freshman runner for IC to be named the Empire 8's top rookie and first since 2011. She finished eighth at the conference meet to top all freshman entries with a time of 19:13.3 on the 5K course, and was also one of the best freshman at the NCAA Atlantic Regional meet with an overall placement of 46th out of 304 runners. Morrison also made a trip to the NCAA DIII Championship as Ithaca placed 11th overall as a team.

Sean Phillips Named Empire 8's Runner of the Year

Ithaca College student and cross country runner was named the Empire 8's Runner of the Year. Phillips paced Ithaca to another Empire 8 title (seventh straight) on October 29 in Oneonta, N.Y. and claimed the individual crown with a time of 25:45.9 on the 8K course, which was nearly 13 seconds faster than the runner-up. He earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Championships this season and finished 148th overall in a time of 25:42.7.

Ithaca College Soccer Players Named All-Region by NSCAA

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has released its All-Region selections with three members of the Ithaca College women's soccer team receiving recognition for their contributions during the 2016 season. Senior Aimee Chimera was tabbed to the East Region's Second Team while classmates Jocelyn Ravesi and Taylor Baranowsky were each named to the Region's Third Team.
